There is a growing business and commercial sector both within the town centre and within the estates, all of which provide local employment opportunities. There is also a major cement manufacturing plant on the southern periphery of the town which is a further source of employment.
In addition to the swimming baths, a wide range of sporting facilities is available including a Sports Centre, Bowling Green, Tennis Courts, Fishing Club, Cricket and Football pitches together with easy access to nearby Golf and other leisure facilities.
The town also boasts a country park which has been developed on reclaimed land. This land consisted formally of clay holes which later became land-filled sites for domestic refuse before being developed into the prestigious Etna Country Park. Buckley F.C.’s new football ground is also located there. Numerous open spaces are available for informal recreation not least the extensive common land which, as a site of special scientific interest, is there for the enjoyment of all the town’s people.
The elderly are catered for with the provision of a good number of senior citizens and luncheon clubs convenient to most areas of the town. Education is catered for through five primary schools and the Elfed High School and Belmont School, with further and higher education at nearby Deeside and Wrexham.
The Town Council is located within the Civic Buildings just off Buckley Cross on Mold Road where some of the local services of Flintshire County Council are also provided. The Town Council meets each month, usually the fourth Tuesday, at the Council Chamber at 7.00 pm. Notices are published to this effect and the Press and the public are warmly invited to attend.
